Level at the beginning of day 34: 26

This post actually spans the course of two weeks, which is unprecedented for this blog but I just didn’t feel like there was much to say.

Day 34

I played 3 practice games (well, not full games) as jungler with Evelynn and Amumu. Even though I bought Amumu a while ago, this was my first time playing him and I liked him more than I thought I would. Still too scared to jungle in a real game.

I played a PvP game with Soraka and a bot game with Kayle, just because I realized I hadn’t received my first win of the day bonus yet.

I also ended up playing a PvP as Tristana, which was terrifying – support, mid and top lane roles were all called so it was that or jungler. I was super nervous but I did okay. I mean, I actually did terribly, but so did the entire team.

Day 35

Ah, April Fool’s Day. No one appreciates a good joke more than me – and by good, I mean clever/random and doesn’t hurt anyone.

This year, LOL decided to change everyone’s opponent’s names to
“[Champion Name] Bot” in PvP games, leading players to think that they were playing against “Advanced AI”. I’m pretty sure no one was fooled, but I still thought it was funny.

I played 1 PvP game with Soraka just so I could experience that but I spent most of the day shopping, tbh.

Day 36

New free champions!

Nidalee is such a badass. I was hoping that I would like her, and I actually like her more than I thought I would, because I thought that turning into a cougar was an ultimate ability she could only use once in a while (like Shyvana turning into a dragon), but it turns out you can basically do it whenever you want. Awesome.

Also, she has a great name. Would also make a good baby name…except how lame would it be if we were like “Oh, she’s named after a video game character!” when people asked. Video game characters just have such cool names! Like, Navi is one of the prettiest names I’ve ever heard….except we already have a dog named that. But if we didn’t, I’d be all about that.

Zilean was cooler than I thought as well, and he actually has a pretty cool backstory. I just wish that his sticky bomb was more powerful.

I was quite disappointed with Malzahar, he felt pretty weak to me. That’s kind of all I have to say about it.

I can’t understand why Mordekaiser isn’t played as a jungler when one of his abilities is mostly centered around killing dragons. That said though, he is pretty cool and although I didn’t get to try out his ultimate and experience a ghost following me around, it seems like one of the more unique abilities in the game.

I wasn’t expecting to like Aatrox, but he seems pretty strong so it’s kind of hard not to.

Ashe’s “Sherwood Forest” skin was on sale so I bought that and played a game with her as well to try it out.

Day 37

Jinx and Kindred were also on the free rotation, so I played bot games with them since I haven’t played them since I first started. I still really like them both. And holy crap Jinx attacks fast.

I played my first PvP games with Anivia and I got a D+ both times! Way to go. Yeah, it was

pretty bad. But I still like her! Also, I noticed that when you die as an egg, your name comes up as “Eggnivia”. EGGNIVIA. That’s. So. CUTE. *screaming*

Morgana’s “Ghost Bride” skin was on sale so I bought that one too. I’ve gotten 3 skins for $20, and I can still get another one (if it’s one of the lower priced ones and it goes on sale) so that’s pretty good, I think. V. reasonable. So I played some games with Morgana to try it out, and also one with Janna just because, I guess?

Those were all Draft Pick games (even though my match history is showing them as Blind Pick for some reason) and I think I mostly understand it now! I mean, I don’t understand everything, but I understand enough to not fuck up. Maybe it’s the way that it looks in the new client but it all seemed very straightforward to me.  There was a “declaring intention” phase where everyone picks the champions they want assuming they don’t get banned, so you know not to ban any of those people. I don’t think that phase was so clearly defined before and I think that’s what confused me.

I’m still wondering how it’s determined which 3 players on each team get to ban champions and who goes first.

I was also frustrated by the fact that you’re not guaranteed one of your chosen roles, which I thought was the whole point of draft pick. But, I learned this time around that if you’ve “recently played support” (not sure what constitutes as recently), your drafts are “autofill protected”, meaning you’re guaranteed one of your choices. All of my games were autofill protected, even the ones I played with Anivia where I chose mid.

So as someone who will probably be playing support until I die, that’s great news!
