Why Is It SO HARD

Well, I was all excited to complete the Invasion missions, because for once I actually really want the reward, which is the New Horizon ward skin. But it turns out that the missions are actually literally IMPOSSIBLE because they all involve successfully completing the game mode on the harder ‘Onslaught’ difficulty. So far, I’ve only managed to do this once.

I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be so difficult, especially considering that the mode is equally difficult no matter your rank. I guess I expected Riot to make it feel do-able for newer players, even if that meant that it would feel too easy for more experienced players, but it seems they went in the opposite direction and that’s a little disappointing to me. At the end of the day, it’s still a fun bonus game mode with free content that can be acquired simply by playing, which they certainly don’t have to provide. But that said, if the objective is to be a fun addition, I feel like the missions should feel like slightly less of a brutal grind to complete (if you can even complete any at all).

It also doesn’t help that many of the missions require you to play with a pre-made team of 5. I can see why – for one thing, it can get annoying fast when strangers are pestering you to change how you want to play so that they can complete a particular goal, and besides that, the whole theme of the Star Guardians is ‘love and friendship!’. However, what about us antisocial weirdos who don’t have 5 friends??? (I’m kidding; I do have 5 friends, it’s just that they’re rarely all online at once. But for real, prior to going viral I had ZERO friends!! I would have been SOL.)

Anyway, there’s still a little over a week left, so if you have any tips on successfully completing the missions please let me know! Just don’t tell me to just ‘focus the Vel’Koz’ for the love of god because I KNOW. We. all. know.

I am however extremely pleased with the new Star Guardian skins, and I was very happy to discover that they’re all free to play in Invasion. As a marketing strategy, I highly respect this aspect of Invasion because after having tried them all out, I now want them all so much more. Especially Star Guardian Ahri – they really went above and beyond to make her feel as special as possible to play. And as I noted last time, her voice lines are on point (heavenly body, coming through!). I think my favourite feature of Star Guardian Soraka is the way that she goes transparent when she’s healing from her Q. There are some aspects of her skin that kind of irk me (Why does her hair seem like it’s a sheet of beautiful metal? Is she wearing a strapless dress? Isn’t that kind of impractical? Why don’t you ever get to see her little friend? Why are her wings on her butt?) but all in all, it’s still by far my favourite Soraka skin. I even downloaded the desktop wallpaper of her splash art.

Admittedly, I’ve been spending most of my time on League this past week playing Invasion, but I also took time to try some free champions as well. Most were repeats, but I tried Master Yi and Renekton for the first time.

Master Yi has long been one of my least favourite champions to play against because I can never seem to tell who he is going to deal damage to and where he will end up after he uses his Q. He’s also one of my least favourite champions to play WITH when I’m playing support because the fact that he’s untargetable half the time makes it really hard to shield and/or heal him. I wish I could say that I have a better idea of how to deal with this now that I’ve played him, but I really don’t.

I was just saying to tect the other day that I thought that Renekton seemed really boring, because he decided to play Renekton on stream and I was like ‘dude why’. However I concede that while he may look boring to play, he doesn’t feel all that boring. I like his Slice ‘n Dice ability.

In other news, we have a subscribe button on Twitch now!! I didn’t think that would happen for a long while, but Twitch sent us an email asking if we’d like one as part of their Twitch Affiliate program! So that is great news. Plus, Twitch has an offer going on right now where you can get 50% off the first month of a new subscription until October 4th – so if that’s something you’re interested in, now is a great time!

We also set up a page on Patreon – it functions in a similar way as Twitch subscriptions, but I personally like the Patreon system better because it also allows you to set your own price tiers and give rewards to your patrons. You can check out our patron rewards here, but the TL;DR of it is that you can subscribe for as little as $1 a month and get exclusive content like extra blog posts, Youtube videos and live streams as well as other fun perks like shoutouts, special features in our Discord and more.

I do want to say that just by spending any of your precious time with us that is a huge help and we are so grateful for it. These are just extra things you can do if you want to help us not just continue what we’re doing now but actually grow and further develop as creators. There are so many more things we want to do with this project and things like Patreon rewards are how we are currently planning on making those things happen!

Also, if there’s anything that you’d like to see us offer as rewards (whether it’s on Patreon or through other features such as Twitch subscriptions or our stream’s “Death Snacks” loyalty program), please let me know!

As a heads up, on Sunday we’ll be live streaming lessons on both Braum and Bard, both of whom I have unlocked today! There will also be Youtube highlights from those lessons but those videos may not be out for a couple of weeks so definitely tune in for that if you’re interested.

  1. Hi!
Glad to see you are having fun with Onslaught! I’ve found it pretty relaxing and entertaining at times. For a guide on the game mode I found this on reddit a while ago: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZQUEbwkHf9sWX1hcpKI6TEj8CtMnGO2EZkXAVIa4-SU/edit
Basically ADC’s are broken keep them alive with attack speed and you don’t always need supports just an ardent censer (on Lux)
But you can still play Soraka if you want, just make sure you have some ADC’s to buff!
